Loudoun Man Helped Push Against Police Line During Jan. 6 Capitol Riot: Prosecutors

A man from Loudoun County has been arrested after he was accused of participating in the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

ALDIE, VA — A man from Aldie has been arrested in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced. Prosecutors said 32-year-old Robert Degregoris joined the riot after it began and helped push against a police line.

Degregoris is charged with felony civil disorder; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds; and impeding passage through the Capitol grounds or buildings. He appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday.

Court documents showed Degregoris at the U.S. Capitol building's lower west terrace more than an hour after the riot began.

"Degregoris joined the group of rioters in their efforts to breach the police line and gain entrance to the U.S. Capitol, including by pushing against officers," the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia said in a news release.

Prosecutors said Degregoris remained near the terrace's tunnel after he was pepper sprayed and helped push a ladder toward the police line.

Authorities said more than 950 people have been charged in the two years since the attack on the Capitol. More than a quarter of those suspects were charged with assaulting or obstructing law enforcement.
