Aspiring Lacrosse Player saves the life of a Young Man

In December 2024 Jaxon Brown was trying out for the True Lacrosse team at VA Revolution in south Leesburg when another player was struck in the chest by a Lacrosse ball. The young man immediately fell to the ground and went into cardiac arrest. Jaxon Brown dropped his Lacrosse equipment, ran to the victim’s side and started CPR as the young man started turning blue. Jaxon Brown and one of the Lacrosse coaches continued CPR for 10 minutes until paramedics arrived on scene. Jaxon's quick reaction is credited with saving the young man.
The condition causing Cardiac arrest is called Commotio Cordis, a rare disruption of the heart rhythm resulting from a blow directly over the heart. The condition is fatal in 97% of cases if not treated within three minutes.
The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter, Virginia Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) serves Loudoun County. One of the goals of SAR is to recognize extraordinary performance in the areas of Life Saving, Heroism, Fire Safety, EMT, and Law Enforcement. For extraordinary life saving performance in the face of an emergency, the Chapter presented Jaxon Brown the Sons of the American Revolution Life Saving medal. The presentation was made by Chapter President Barry Schwoerer.
Jaxon is a 16 year old sophomore at Loudoun County High School. where he participates in the Naval Junior ROTC program where he learned CPR as part of his training.
