Cash Register Swiped in Downtown Burglary

Leesburg police ask for public's help in solving case of restaurant theft.

Someone broke into a downtown Leesburg restaurant on Sunday night and stole a cash register, and Leesburg police are looking for the thief or thieves.

The theft occurred between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Sunday at Puccio’s New York Deli, 15 Loudoun St. SW, according to a report from the Leesburg Police Department. A vendor making a routine delivery to the restaurant noticed damage to the rear of the building and called 911 to report the incident.

An unknown person or persons forced entry to the rear door of the business and once inside, removed the cash register, which contained an undisclosed amount of currency, the police said.

There was nothing else initially identified as being taken from the restaurant, the police report added. The incident is currently under investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigations Section.
