A job and career fair, sponsored by Congressman Frank Wolf, is scheduled to take place at Harper Park Middle School on Monday.

At least 30 employers are expected to be available including a number of workforce resources. Resumes will be accepted for positions in engineering, manufacturing, technology and the heath care industry.

“Basically, you walk in and get a welcome packet that has a map of the venue. It gives you a complete listing of all the businesses and resource folks that are there,” said Staff Assistant Ann Potocnak.

“We have asked the employers to accept resumes if they possibly can and to talk to people about what opportunities are available in their companies," she said. "Really just to give the job seekers that personal interaction that you sometimes just don’t get.”

Potocnak said that the job fair is normally held once a year. It offers those who are either unemployed, or underemployed, a chance to find a better, more secure job.

“There are people out there unemployed and they’re trying to put food on the table for their children. There are people out there who are underemployed where they were let go from good jobs, making good salaries, and have essentially lost those opportunities and now they’re working jobs that they’re overqualified for,” Potocnack said. “What we’re hoping to do is just introduce the employers to the potential employee.”

Monday’s job and career fair is free and open to the public. There is no requirement on what to bring, however resumes are highly recommended. The event will take place at 701 Potomac Station Drive from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Call 703-709-5800 or visit wolf.house.gov for a complete list of participating employers.
