Timber! Wood Chips Fly At VA Spring Lumberjack Classic

Lumberjacks and lumberjills competed in axe-throwing, stein-hoisting, chain-sawing, and, of course, chopping wood at the Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company’s spring Lumberjack Classic in Roseland this weekend.

Over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, competitors attempted to out-saw, out-axe and out-hoist each other. According to a report from 29 News, timber-hewing challengers came from around the world to participate in these traditional feats of strength and skill.

According to organizers, the Lumberjack Classic is the premier timber sports event in the Southeast. A video from Devil’s Backbone shows how the wood chips fly and chainsaws roar during the annual spring and fall competitions. Another video of some of this weekend's events was posted to the brewing company's Facebook page.

Past events have helped raise money for outdoor-focused nonprofit organizations, according to the brewer. The fall and spring events have been running regularly for several years now. Winners of this year’s competition haven’t yet been published. Visit the Devil’s Backbone for more information.
