Father, Son Charged In Leesburg Bank Robbery After Police Pursuit

A father and son were charged in connection with a bank robbery after a police pursuit that spanned from Frederick County to Purcellville.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A father and son have been charged in connection with a bank robbery that occurred in Leesburg on Friday. Authorities claimed that the men, Kenneth W. Sencindiver and Kenneth W. Sencindiver II, were arrested on Sunday after a pursuit that began in Frederick County and ended at Patrick Henry College in Purcellville.

In a news release, authorities said that police in Frederick County initiated the pursuit. The chase then continued through Clarke County before the fleeing vehicle stopped on the campus of Patrick Henry College.

Deputies with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said the vehicle was unoccupied when they found it, according to an update. Patrick Henry College was placed on lockdown, as authorities believed the suspects were armed.

The suspects, who were identified as the Sencindivers, were taken into custody without further incident on the college campus on Sunday morning. Authorities said that two firearms were recovered.

On Monday, officials with the Leesburg Police Department announced that the Sencindivers would also be charged in connection with the robbery of the M&T Bank on E. Market Street on Friday.

On Friday afternoon around 4:30 p.m., a man, who police identified as the elder Sencindiver, entered the M&T Bank and presented a note to the teller. The note implied that the man had a gun and demanded cash, the Leesburg Police Department said. No weapon was displayed during the robbery

The suspect fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Authorities claimed that the younger Sencindiver was an accomplice in the robbery.

"The Leesburg Police Department would like to thank the many civilians who reached out to us in regards to the identity of the suspect," authorities said in a news release on Monday. "Your numerous tips directly assisted in the quick closure of this case, in which no civilians or officers were injured."

The Sencindivers now face charges from multiple jurisdictions in connection with the bank robbery and police pursuit. Kenneth Sencindiver is charged with robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, two counts of a felon in possession of a firearm, felony eluding, reckless driving, and obstruction of justice.

Kenneth Sencindiver II is charged with robbery and obstruction of justice. Both men are being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
