Fincastle Resolutions 250th Anniversary commemorated in Roanoke, VA
Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter VA SAR participated in the Color Guard at the 250th Commemoration of Fincastle Resolutions
Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter President Barry Schwoerer represented the chapter in Old Town Roanoke on Saturday, January 19, 2025. Mr. Schwoerer carried a musket as the second musket man in the color guard as the colors marched in a parade following the Virginia Military Institute band. The procession marched to the front of the Winston Link & Roanoke History Center and Museum where they presented and posted colors in front of the speaker's platform.
The Fincastle Resolutions were signed by fifteen men representing Fincastle County, Virginia on January 20, 1775. The resolves voiced anger against Britains' Intolerable Acts and supported resistance to those acts. The Fincastle Resolutions were the first document by the Colonials promising resistance, and if necessary Death, to preserve their liberties.
