George Washington Birthday parade in Alexandria

The annual George Washington Birthday parade was held in Old Town Alexandria on a rainy Saturday afternoon, February 15. Despite the rain, a large crowd observed parade units passing through the streets of Old Town. The Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution was well represented with participants from multiple chapters. Virginia SAR was recognized by Parade organizer judges by recognizing Virginia SAR and participating chapters with three honors: 1st Place – “Spirit of George Washington” category, 1st Place – “Honor Guards and Color Guards” category, 2nd Place – “Historical Units” category.

The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter from Loudoun County was represented by a float decorated to honor President and Revolutionary War Commanding General, George Washington. Chapter members Warner Workman, David Welker and Barry Schwoerer wore clothing typical of Virginia Revolutionary War Militia soldiers.
