Giovanni's NY Pizza

In this week's edition of Getting Out in Leesburg, I visit Giovanni's NY Pizza; a Leesburg institution.

When I think of pizza in Leesburg, I think of . When my family moved here in 1990, we lived close to its Market Street location, so it was a frequent dinner spot. It was much different back then; at only half the size, it was a takeout place. Sure, there were a couple of cracked vinyl booths, but people only really stayed if they were just getting a slice. Mainly you stopped in, got some food and took it home.

When Giovanni's took over the unit next to them and expanded, they became a family destination. Serving delicious, authentic NY-style pizza at a reasonable price, Giovanni's is filled with families clamoring over another slice.

When it comes to NY-style pizza, they're definitely the best in town, but that's not all Giovanni's has going for them: their subs and pastas are also top notch. The Italian sub is a favorite, and for my money, their Eggplant Parmesan can't be beaten. If I'm getting takeout, chances are that's what I'm taking home with me.

However, when I'm coming with the family, pizza is usually the way to go. One of the great things about Giovanni's is that they have toppings that you won't necessarily find everywhere. My new favorite pizza to order there is broccoli and sun-dried tomatoes.

The same family has run Giovanni's since it opened its doors in 1982. More impressively though, is the fact that theirs aren't the only familiar faces you'll see when you visit.

The restaurant industry has a notoriously high turnover rate, yet there are servers and bussers who have been there for years. They're always pleasant, efficient, and make it seem like Giovanni's is a great place to work.

While their prices are already quite reasonable, Giovanni's offers an additional discount to town and county employees. You can also find a coupon in the latest Val-Pack. With this said, they do have two major disadvantages: they don't deliver, and they're closed on Sundays. They've got to keep the competition fair somehow, right?
