Graves of Three Patriots of the American Revolution Marked by SAR

On Saturday, March 16 the Sgt Maj John Champe (SMJC) Chapter of Loudoun County sponsored the dedication of a three Patriot Monument and a Patriot Grave Marking for three NIXON Patriots of the American Revolution at the Nixon Family Cemetery south of Leesburg. Property owners Christopher and Maura Kluttz graciously allowed the ceremony to take place and worked with the SMJC Chapter for installation of the monument and Patriot Grave Markers. Mr. & Mrs. Kluttz were presented a Certificate of Appreciation for their support of the program.

The three Patriots recognized were: George Nixon (1731-1800), George Nixon (1751-1818) and John Nixon (1755-1815). George the elder provided supplies to the cause. George the younger served in the Army. John provided supplies and served in the Army.

The ceremony was attended by multiple chapters of Virginia Sons of the American Revolution, Three chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Reverend John Marks Society Children of the American Revolution, and the Society of Descendants of George Washington's Army at Valley Forge. Virginia Society 2nd Vice President Darrin Schmidt represented Virginia SAR and brought greetings on behalf of President Bill Greaf.

SAR Chapters attending were: SMJC-President Barry Schwoerer, Vice President Mark Sink, Past President and current Virginia SAR 3rd Vice President Ken Bonner, Sean Schwoerer (audio-video), Jacob Schwoerer, Timothy Murphy, Dan Loper, Steve Van Deusen, Kurtis Schwoerer, and applicant Christopher Vaughan; Colonel James Wood II Chapter-Brett Osborn (VA SAR Color Guard Commander), Kelly Ford, Paul Christensen (President), Marc Robinson, Richard Tyler and Doug Hall (Drummer), and Bryan Buck; Colonel William Grayson Chapter-Mike Wilson (President), Culpeper Minutemen Chapter-Bill Schwetke; Fairfax Resolves Chapter-Larry Mckinley; Williamsburg Chapter -Gary Dunaway; George Washington Chapter-Michael Jackson.

Holly Lynn Schmidt, Brigade Commander for the Descendants of George Washington's Army at Valley Forge brought Greetings for the Brigade and presented a wreath. Jacob Schwoerer represented the Reverend John Marks Society Children of the American Revolution and presented a wreath.

Daughters of the American Revolution Chapters attending were: Elizabeth McIntosh Hammill Chapter-Paula Schwoerer (presented the chapter wreath) and Tammy Schwoerer; Lanes Mill Chapter-Anita Bonner presented the chapter wreath and led the assembly in singing GOD BLESS AMERICA, Mary Hemings Bell Chapter-Karla Gainey presented the chapter wreath.

An eleven man squad executed a three shot volley using black powder flintlock reproduction rifles and muskets typical of those used during the Revolution. The squad was commanded by Ken Bonner (SMJC) with drum commands provided by Doug Hall (CJW-II).
