Inova Loudoun Hospital Offering “Ask the Expert” Lecture
Sensory Integration and Child Development

As part of its free “Ask the Expert” lecture series, Inova Loudoun Hospital will host two sessions on “Sensory Integration and Child Development” on Tuesday, August 16 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Is your child, or a child you work with, overly sensitive or under reactive to touch, movement, sights or sounds? Is he or she easily distracted and always seem to be disorganized? Or, maybe your child has difficulty learning new tasks and playing with unfamiliar toys. These are all common signs of a sensory processing issue. Sensory integration is the process by which we receive information through our senses, organize the information, and use it to participate in day-to-day activities. Some children have difficulties receiving and processing incoming sensations, making everyday tasks at home and school frustrating.
Join Occupational Therapist Kacie Demetros, Inova Loudoun Hospital’s Outpatient Specialty Rehabilitation Center, for an informative lecture on sensory integration. Learn how occupational therapy can help children – infants, toddlers and adolescents alike – to better develop the sensory skills needed to thrive.
Demetros, MS OTR/L CEIM, is a Pediatric Occupational Therapist and a Certified Educator of Infant Massage. She has nine years of experience and is currently the lead occupational therapist for Feeding and the NICU Follow-Up Clinics at Inova Loudoun Hospital’s Outpatient Specialty Rehabilitation Center. Demetros works with patients of all ages from infancy to geriatrics.
