Next Meeting September 14 at 11 a.m. Featuring Yoga

Inova Loudoun Hospital hosts a free, monthly Stoke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group. The purpose of the support group is to provide a supportive and encouraging environment as a part of the stroke recovery process for those who are affected by stroke and their caregivers. The group meets the second Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. – noon at Inova Loudoun Hospital, 44045 Riverside Parkway, Leesburg in the second floor Patient Education Room. The next Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group will be on Wednesday, September 14th.
The September speaker will be Denyse Peterson, a certified Yoga Therapist. She’ll talk about the benefits of yoga for the stroke survivor and lead a short practice and mediation. Peterson has her master's degree in yoga therapy, and is certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists with over 10 years of experience. She is also a certified personal trainer and has worked for inpatient and outpatient physical therapy clinics.
Stroke is a “brain attack” cutting off vital oxygen and blood to parts of the brain that control everything we do. Every year, stroke affects nearly 800,000 people in the US. The survivors of stroke forever experience changes that can affect speaking, walking, memory, and thinking. Recovery is a lifelong process. Socializing in a supportive and encouraging environment is an important part of stroke recovery. Support groups allow stroke survivors and caregivers an opportunity to interact with others who understand the life changes that occur after stroke.
