Leesburg Closes Playgrounds, Dog Park In Response To Coronavirus
Due to the coronavirus, the Town of Leesburg, effective Sunday, closed all playgrounds and other outdoor places where residents gather.
LEESBURG, VA —Due to the coronavirus, or COVID-19 crisis, the Town of Leesburg, effective Sunday, closed all playgrounds and other enclosed outdoor places where people gather. Residents will still be allowed to use the non-enclosed areas of most town parks.
Freedom Park, located next to J. Lupton Middle School, is the one town park that will be closed in its entirety. The park includes includes two baseball, two softball and one soccer field.
Here is a list of facilities managed by Leesburg Park & Recreation that have shut down until further notice:

- Outdoor tennis courts at Ida Lee Park
- Ballfields at Robinson Park
- Soccer/lacrosse fields at Ida Lee Park
- Basketball courts at Greenway Park, Rotary Park, and Foxridge Park
- Eric Brown Skate Plaza at Catoctin Park
- Pavilions at Ida Lee Park, Foxridge Park, Tuscarora Park, Potomac Crossing Park, and Edwards Landing Park
- Dog Park at Olde Izaak Walton Park
- Freedom Park

Last week, the Leesburg Town Council approved a declaration of local emergency, a declaration scheduled to remain in effect until May 2. Under the state of emergency declared by Town Manager Kaj Dentler, Leesburg said it will continue to provide essential services to its residents.

The Loudoun County government declared its own local emergency Monday morning to help deal with the coronavirus.
Virginia has 220 confirmed positive cases of the coronavirus and six deaths related to the disease. As of Sunday, Loudoun County had 15 confirmed positive cases of the coronavirus but no deaths.
