LEESBURG, VA — The Leesburg Town Council approved a declaration of local emergency Wednesday morning in response to the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, a declaration scheduled to remain in effect until May 2. Under the state of emergency declared by Town Manager Kaj Dentler, Leesburg said it will continue to provide essential services to its residents.

The Loudoun County government declared its own local emergency Monday morning to help deal with the coronavirus. Loudoun County Administrator Tim Hemstreet issued the declaration in coordination with Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis J. Randall.

Leesburg said it will not shut off water service for nonpayment of bills for the next 60 days. Emergency repair operations of water utility infrastructure will continue as necessary. Leesburg's municipal water is safe to drink and there is no need to buy bottled water, the town said.
