Leesburg Hosts "Downtown Day"

Historic Leesburg hosted a "Downtown Day" and sidewalk sale on Saturday.

Shop keepers were pleased with the overall turnout.

Terry Downs, owner of located at 27 S. King Street and at 3 Loudoun Street SW, said she saw "a lot of out of towners who were doing some Christmas shopping." 

Downs said sales were going well and she would love to see this event again in the future. 

"It would be great if they would block the streets off and have more street vendors, just like the garden show," Downs added.

Jan Forman, owner of a new shop at One Loudoun Street SW called The Jeans Whisperer, was also happy with the turnout for both Leesburg's First Friday and the Downtown Day.  The shop opened on July 6 and is appreciative of their warm welcome to Leesburg.

Also on Saturday, , located at 9 Loudoun Street SW, held their first annual "Shop to Give" event.  Fifteen percent of the sales were to be donated to local women's charities and their goal was to raise awareness of domestic violence and abuse.  All 10 Lou Lou locations in DC, Virginia and Maryland participated in this event. 

Jennifer Holder, manager of Lou Lou in Leesburg said "the day has been going very well and people are excited that we are doing this type of fundraiser". 

"Our accessories bring the customers in and the clothing also does great, there is something for everyone here, we are offering a unique style," Holder added.

Leesburg's Downtown Day culminated with a performance by Gary Smallwood in the concert series.
