Leesburg Police Officer Retires After 29 Years Of Service

LEESBURG, VA — A Leesburg police officer is retiring after serving the town for more than 29 years. Sergeant Steven Pebler, who joined the Leesburg Police Department in September 1991, has received awards as well as letters from the public thanking him for his service during his long tenure.

After serving four years in the Air Force, Pebler began his career in law enforcement in 1984 as a police officer with the Sherwood Police Department in Arkansas. He then moved to Leesburg to join the Leesburg department.

As a member of the Leesburg Police Department, Pebler served as patrol supervisor, negotiations team leader, school resource officer supervisor, traffic management unit supervisor, UAS team member, crash reconstruction team member, and Loudoun County critical incident stress management team member.

On one occasion, Pebler successfully negotiated the surrender of an armed person who was suicidal. For his actions, he was awarded a Leesburg Police Department Commanders Award. Additionally, over the years, the Leesburg Police Department has received numerous letters of thanks from the public, town employees and other law enforcement agencies for his work.

Outside his job, Pebler enjoys volunteering with his church and flying his fleet of drones. In retirement, he looks forward to spending time with his wife, his children and his grandchildren.
