Leesburg Restaurant Inspections: Violations At 10 Locations

During recent restaurant inspections, the Loudoun County Health Department found violations at 10 locations near Leesburg and Purcellville.

LEESBURG, VA — Officials from the Loudoun County Health Department inspected multiple restaurants across the Leesburg area from Oct. 6 to Oct. 12, including 10 different locations with violations.

As coronavirus restrictions continue to fluctuate around the state, health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

    • Date inspected: Oct. 7
    • Total violations: 8
      • Did not observe food employee washing hands during time of inspection.
      • Observed food employee portioning cooked rice and broccoli which was coming in contact with their bare hands as it was being placed in the to-go container.
      • Observed multiple hand sinks in kitchen obstructed with variety of items.
      • Observed container of cut cabbage stacked directly on top of cut cabbage in walk-in cooler.
      • Observed ready to eat cut cabbage (44F), rice noodles (44F), and pot stickers (46F) above 41F in walk-in cooler.
      • There was no date marking observed for ready-to-eat food items.
      • Observed knives being stored in the seams of a prep cooler in food prep area.
      • Observed plumbing for 3 compartment sink leaking and draining onto kitchen floor.

    • Date inspected: Oct. 7
    • Total violations: 7
      • The following farm-raised fish: Salmon, is served raw or partially cooked and observed without a written statement from the supplier stating that the fish were raised and fed according to 3-402.11
      • Observed 2 ice machines in need of cleaning.
      • Observed 2% milk and half and half in mini fridge unit not cold holding at proper temperatures.
      • Observed multiple containers of chili date marked with a prepared date of 9/27 in need of discarding. Also observed pasta salad date marked with a prepared date of 9/30 in need of discarding. Items are kept over 7 days from prepared by date.
      • Observed eggs offered raw or undercooked without an identification of an asterisk referencing the footnote that states the items are served raw or undercooked.
      • Observed pre-packaged food in a grab & go manner not properly labeled. Food observed in an un-marked container with the date in need of discarding.
      • Observed front door not tight fitting. Observed a large amount of daylight at the bottom of the door. No door sweep present.

      • Observed sliced tomatoes in prep cooler 2 at 48F.

      • Observed multiple food items being stored on the floor.
      • Observed whole milk setting out at a temperature of 63F.

    • Total violations: 2
      • Observed no verifiable manner that current employees are aware of their responsibility to report to the person in charge information about their health and activities as it relates to diseases that are transmissible through food.
      • Observed no air gap at 3 compartment sink for the wash and rinse basin. Hand sink by 2 Door refrigerator observed slow to drain.

    • Date inspected: Oct. 8
    • Total violations: 6
      • There was no verifiable employee health policy that employees have been trained on the signs, symptoms, and exposures to foodborne illness and whom to report to.
      • Observed raw shelled eggs being store next to milk container in walk in cooler.
      • Observed dishes in the sanitizer compartment being sanitized with a 0 ppm.
      • Observed cooked chicken in hot holding unit at 86F, 101F, 102F.
      • According to the date marking system used on the prepared ready-to-eat (RTE) adano and sour cream in the 2 door cooler, the food should have been discarded 2 days ago.
      • Observed pico de gallo 43F, 44F and shredded lettuce 43F prepped an hour in prep cooler on front line at improper temperatures.
