Leesburg Restaurant Inspections: Violations At 6 Locations

Six different restaurants around western Loudoun County had violations during recent inspections by the Loudoun County Health Department.

LEESBURG, VA — A number of restaurants around western Loudoun County were cited with violations during recent inspections by the Loudoun County Health Department. The restaurants were inspected on Nov. 29 and Nov. 30.

As coronavirus restrictions continue to fluctuate around the state, health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

  • Dinner Belles Kitchen Cupboard, 24 E Broadway Lovettsville, VA 20180
    • Date inspected: Nov. 29
    • Total violations: 2
      • Observed several reduced oxygen packaged foods prepared by the facility without proper approval in the grab & go refrigerator and freezer. Foods included: mushroom and swiss quiche, shepherd's pie, spinach and feta quiche, and ham and swiss quiche. Foods are held for over 48 hours.
      • Observed customer entrance door in need of repair. Door has significant daylight coming from door seals and is no longer tight fitting. Also observed floor tile in the mop room in need of repair. Floor tiles are missing/ damaged.
  • La Estacion Restaurante, Inc, 525 E. Market St Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: Nov. 29
    • Total violations: 3
      • Restroom did not have paper towels available to dry hands.
      • Observed raw shell eggs stored above milk containers in reach in cooler.
      • Observed pork and cheese 73F as well as cabbage mix 65, 62F improperly cooling. These items had been prepped about 45 minutes before temperature was taken.
  • It’s A Peace of Cake (Harmony Hall), 39041 E Colonial Hwy. Hamilton, VA 20158
    • Date inspected: Nov. 29
    • Total violations: 2
      • The person in charge (PIC) cannot produce a verifiable employee health policy.
      • Caterer did not bring food contact safe sanitizer to the commissary kitchen. Caterer had test strips.
  • Velocity Wings, 1020 E. Main St Ste E Purcellville, VA 20132
    • Date inspected: Nov. 29
    • Total violations: 3
      • Observed: Toxic chemical spray bottles unlabeled.
      • Observation: Salmon in reduced oxygen packaging (ROP) still under ROP during thawing.
      • Observed: Deflector, sides of interior of ice machine has residue build up.
  • The Chocolate Palette LLC, 141 W Main Street Purcellville, VA 20132
    • Date inspected: Nov. 29
    • Total violations: 2
      • Observed no certified food protection manager. Facility cooks raw shell eggs.
      • Observed raw shell eggs stored over ready to eat (RTE) foods.
  • Rodeo's Mexican Grill, 26 D East Broadway, Suite 100 Lovettsville, VA 20180
    • Date inspected: Nov. 30
    • Total violations: 4
      • Observed no verifiable manner that employees are aware, to report to the person in charge, information about their health and activities as it relates to diseases that are transmissible through food.
      • Observed raw ground beef stored over ready to eat avocados.
      • Observed homemade cheese sauce hot holding at improper temperature. Cheese sauce was observed at 110F.
      • Observed cut tomato salsa and sliced tomatoes cold holding at improper temperatures in the prep unit. Food items were above the fill line and observed at 55F.
