Virginia State Police To Increase Enforcement On This VA Highway

Virginia State Police are going to be focusing on this Northern Virginia artery this weekend.

FAIRFAX, VA – Virginia State Police will be stepping up enforcement this weekend on I-66 in Virginia, the force announced.

The Virginia State Police Fairfax and Culpeper Divisions will be conducting "Operation DISS-rupt" on all 76 miles of Interstate 66 in Virginia from Saturday, Aug. 22, to Monday, Aug. 24. “DISS” stands for distracted driving, impaired driving, speed compliance and seat belt safety, all elements the initiative will target for enforcement.

The VSP says those are the four key causes of serious and crashes. According to the VSP, 443 people died on Virginia roadways from Jan. 1 to Aug. 15, 2026. If this trend continues, traffic fatalities this year will far exceed last year’s total of 499 deaths.

VSP has run this operation before. Virginia police say when they ran the operation in February, 53 drivers were cited for reckless driving, 53 more for distracted driving and 66 for speeding, plus four more for seatbelt violations.

The operation’s goal is to achieve zero fatal crashes during designated enforcement periods and to reduce the total number of crashes on Virginia interstates for the calendar year by 10%:
