Leesburg Water Main Flushing Begins Monday

Controlled water main flushing begins today, March 11, throughout the Town of Leesburg and continues through April 12. The Town of Leesburg Utilities Department routinely flush water lines as a preventative measure to maintain high water quality.

Residents may see utility workers open fire hydrants. The water flow flushes out sediment, removes air that can accumulate in the pipes and restores chlorine levels in areas of limited use, which reduces the potential for bacteriological contamination.

Town water will remain safe to drink, or otherwise use, during the exercise; however, residents may notice some discoloration and sediment in the water. The Utilities Department recommends that any residents who see discoloration or sediment avoid doing laundry until the discoloration subsides. Flushing also might introduce air into the water, which could cause a temporary erratic flow. In addition, some residents and businesses may experience lower pressure during the flushing in their neighborhood.

The department anticipates beginning in the northeast quadrant of town and proceeding to the southeast, northwest and southwest quadrants, respectively.
