Local Law Enforcement Collects Over 500 Pounds of Prescriptions
The third annual "Prescription Drug Take Back Program" was held last Saturday.

The Leesburg Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency, participated in the third annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28.
This year, the total amount collected was 251 pounds. This is up from 77 pounds that were collected in 2011.
“The abuse of prescription drugs is a growing problem in our country and the Prescription Drug Take Back program provides a legal and safe means of disposing of these drugs," said Leesburg Police Chief Joseph Price. “The Leesburg Police Department is proud to cooperate with the DEA and other law enforcement agencies to provide this service to our community."

The Loudoun County Sheriffs Office and the Purcellville Police Department also offered collection sites.
As a whole, law enforcement agencies in Loudoun County collected almost 600 pounds of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction during the “Take-Back” initiative. It was the largest amount collected by Loudoun law enforcement since the introduction of the initiative in the county.
