Local SAR Chapter Attends Forgotten Patriots Ceremony

The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter VA SAR traveled to Culpeper for a Ceremony commemorating African American and Native American Patriots

On Saturday, February 3, The Culpeper Minutemen Chapter Virginia SAR sponsored the commemoration of Forgotten patriots who served with the Culpeper Minutemen during the American Revolution . The event was held at the Carver Center in Rapidan. Sixteen African-American Patriots from Culpeper County served in the American Revolution. Descendants of those Patriots still live in Culpeper County with several attending the commemoration.

The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter (SMJC) was represented by Ken Bonner, Barry Schwoerer, and Mark Sink. Mr. Bonner acted as Musket Volley commander and Color Guard Commander. Mr. Schwoerer and Mr. Sink fired three volleys in the musket salute to honor the Forgotten Patriots. All of the SMJC Chapter members participated in Color guard to present the Colors. Chapter President Barry Schwoerer presented the chapter wreath.
