Local SAR Chapter helps Commemorate BGEN Peter Muhlenberg

Sons of the American Revolution celebrated Reverend turned Revolutionary War officer, John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg at Woodstock 27 January

On a beautiful winter day in Woodstock, VA the Colonel James Wood II Chapter Virginia SAR sponsored the Commemoration of Brigadier General Peter Muhlenberg. The event was held across the street from the site where Muhlenberg was a minister when he reportedly removed his religious vestments to reveal the uniform of a Colonel in the Revolutionary War Continental Army. He went on to lead several hundred men from Woodstock and surrounding counties. He and his men were at Yorktown, the battle that ended the Revolutionary War with a victory for America.

Barry Schwoerer and Ken Bonner represented the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter. Mr. Schwoerer presented the Chapter wreath. Mr. Bonner carried the Chapter flag in the Color Guard presentation of Colors.
