Local SAR Chapter Honors Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier

On Saturday, February 14, the Kate Waller Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and George Washington Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution co-sponsored an annual commemoration of an Unknown Revolutionary War Solder at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Old Town Alexandria. The Soldier was discovered when work was being done at a different church in 1826. He was re-buried with full military honors and now rests under a memorial dedicated in 1929.

Guest speakers were the President General of SAR, Michael Elston and the President General of DAR, Ginnie Sebastian Storage. Attending chapters of SAR, DAR and Children of the American Revolution presented wreaths in honor of the Unknown Soldier. The combined color Guard of Virginia SAR advanced and presented colors to open the ceremony. Participating for the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter were Ken Bonner and Mark Sink. Each attendee was invited to lay a red flower on the Soldier's grave.
