Local SAR Chapter honors Veterans At Dulles International Airport

Combined Virginia SAR Colorguard presents colors for 116 Veterans who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam

A combined Virginia SAR Colorguard assembled at Dulles International Airport on Wednesday, September 25 to honor 116 veterans on a Chicago Honor Flight. One veteran served in WWII, two served in Korea and 113 served in Vietnam. There were eleven (11) Air Force Veterans, eighty-two (82) Army Veterans, six (6) United States Marine Corps Veterans, and seventeen (17) Navy Veterans.

Honor Flights bring veterans to the National Capital region where buses transport them to War Memorials in Washington DC. Each veteran is accompanied by an escort. The oldest Veteran was a 97 year old veteran of WWII.

Four SAR Chapters Participated for the Combined Virginia SAR Colorguard. Representing the Loudoun County based Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter were Barry Schwoerer, Mark Sink and Steve Van Deusen; for the Col James Wood II Chapter: Paul Christensen, Allen Phillips, Chip Daniel and Richard Tyler; For the Fairfax Resolves Chapter: Jim Cordes; For the George Mason Chapter: Ken Morris.
