Local SAR Chapter Part of team to honor Patriot at Historic Church
Loudoun based Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter VA SAR helped honor LtCol Langborn at Historic St Peter's Episcopal Church in New Kent, VA
Saturday, September 14 saw a large contingent of Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, and three other lineage organizations, participate in honoring LtCol William Langborn, Patriot of the American Revolution. During the Revolutionary War LtCol Langborn served in the 6th Virginia Regiment and was aide-de-camp to General Marquis de Lafayette.
The event was held at Historic St. John's Episcopal Church in New Kent, VA. The present church was constructed between 1701 and 1703. It is the oldest Parish Church in the Diocese of Virginia and the third oldest in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is the church where George Washington and the widow Martha Dandridge Custis were married in January 1759.
The Loudoun County based Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter was represented by President Barry Schwoerer and immediate past President Ken Bonner. Mr. Schwoerer was the event Honor Guard Commander and presented the Chapter wreath to honor LtCol Langborn. Mr. Bonner was lead musket in Color Guard for presentation of Colors. Both men fired three rounds in the musket/rifle salute.
