Local SAR Chapter Participated in a "Spectacular Grand Celebration of America's 250th birthday"

A Spectacular Grand Celebration of America's 250th Birthday was held on Saturday, March 14 at River Creek Club in Leesburg. A who's who of Loudoun County elected and appointed officials and heads of companies attended.

The idea for the celebration, and the principal organizer, Was Mrs. Aparna Madireddi. She requested that the team presenting the Flag of the United States be formed of old and new representatives of the military. The Sgt Maj John Champe (SMJC) Chapter,Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution, provided "old military" with men in Revolutionary War Regimental uniforms and an example of a militiaman wearing a hunting shirt. VFW Post 1177 provided representatives of "new Military" with two members representing twenty-first century war veterans.

Participating for the SMJC were: Kenneth Bonner Jr. as Color Guard Commander wearing a revolutionary war regimental uniform, Barry Schwoerer carrying a reproduction musket and wearing a regimental war uniform, and Warner Workman carrying a reproduction Rifle and wearing a hunting shirt, typical of a Virginia militiaman during the Revolution. Participating for VFW Post 1177 were: Jason Cound carrying the Flag of the United States of America, and Elise Woodworth Carrying the Flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mrs. Woodworth represented the many women now serving in combat roles in the United States military.

The SMJC Color Guard team was recognized with a Certificate of Patriotic Service, presented by Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Vice Chairman Michael R. Turner

SMJC Compatriot Richard Ryan worked with the event planning team for the past several months. He was recognized with a Certificate of Patriotic Service, presented by Loudoun County Treasurer Henry C. Eickelberg.
