Local SAR Chapter Participates in two Memorial Day parades

The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter, VA SAR of Loudoun County participated in two parades on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2025. A float owned by chapter member Warner Workman was entered in the National Memorial Day parade in Washington DC as part of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution team. That team consisted of officers of the National Society and representatives from Maryland, Pennsylvania and multiple chapters in Virginia. Members of the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter participating in the parade were float owner Warner Workman, past president Ken Bonner and his spouse Anita--honorary president of the Lanes Mill Chapter DAR, David Welker chapter historian and his spouse Margaret--member of the Lanes Mill Chapter DAR. This was the first time the Sgt Maj John Champe float and team participated in the National Memorial Day parade.

In Hamilton, VA a team from the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter marched as color guard leading the parade for the second year. Immediately following the color guard was a truck towing a small trailer with a 1/5 size Liberty Bell. Mrs. Paula Schwoerer of the Elizabeth McIntosh Hammill Chapter DAR rode in the truck bed ringing the bell as it progressed through the village of Hamilton. The Color Guard was manned by Chapter Vice President Mark Sink, Chapter chaplain Jim Watts, and member Steve Van Deusen. Driving the truck was Chapter President Barry Schwoerer.
