Local SAR Chapter Participates in Veterans Day at Lovettsville Park
The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter Displayed a float and opened the event by presenting Colors
The first Veterans Day commemoration at the Lovettsville Community Park was held 11 November at the flag poles near the center of the park. The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter, Virginia SAR opened the event by presenting colors. Boy and Girl Scouts from Lovettsville lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The SAR Color Guard consisted of Ken Bonner, Barry Schwoerer, and Mark Sink. Mr. Bonner wore a Regimental uniform of the type worn by Revolutionary War soldiers in the Continental Line. Mr. Sink and Mr. Schwoerer wore militia attire similar to that worn by most soldiers from Loudoun County.
Following presentation of Colors the SAR trio manned a float placed on static display just a short distance from the flag display. At the float they displayed a flintlock musket rendered safe by substituting a wood shaped flint for actual flint, and displayed many of the items a typical Revolutionary War soldier and family would have used.
