Local SAR Chapter presents Challenge Coin to Hammerdown BBQ

Presentation of the Chapter Challenge Coin recognized the owners support of First responders and Patriotic Organizations

On Sunday, October 27 Virginia Sons of the American Revolution Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter President Barry Schwoerer presented Ken Soohoo, Hammerdown BBQ owner, pitmaster and Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a Chapter Challenge Coin. Me. Soohoo is a supporter of First Responders (Fire-Rescue, Police, Sheriff, EMT) and Patriotic Organizations. The obverse of the coin depicts the head of a horse taken from the original GUIDON used in the Revolutionary War by the U.S. Light Dragoons, also known as Lee's Legion. Sgt Maj John Champe was the senior enlisted man in Lee's Legion during the Revolution. The name "Lee's Legion" recognizes the fact the unit was commanded by Major Henry "Light Horse" Lee. The original Guidon is in the archives at Stratford Hall, seat of the Lee Family in Westmoreland County, VA. The Reverse of the coin depicts the Virginia SAR logo of three major figures of the Revolution who were from Virginia: Washington-the sword, Jefferson-the pen, Henry-the Voice.

Hammerdown BBQ is located at 41153 John Mosby Highway, Aldie, VA. They display Challenge coins from a variety of military, police, sheriff, fire and rescue and patriotic organizations. Ttheir display of challenge coins in the photo of the presentation is on the wall behind Ken Soohoo and Barry Schwoerer.
