Loudoun based SAR Chapter aides honoring 3 Patriots in Williamsburg
The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter helped honor three patriots of the American Revolution at Historic Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, VA
Three patriots of the American Revolution were honored by Virginia SAR at the Historic Williamsburg Bruton Parish Church Cemetery on Saturday, September 14. The Patriots were Doctor John M. Galt (1744-1808), Doctor Anthony T. Dixon (1745-1808), and Judge Joseph Prentis (1754-1809).
Doctor Galt was a surgeon during the Revolutionary war. He was at the siege of Yorktown and was senior field surgeon of Virginia Troops. After the war he cared for the sick and wounded in the Williamsburg Hospital. Doctor Anthony Dixon served as Regimental Surgeon of the Virginia Line. Judge Joseph Prentis was involved with Virginia Conventions before the Revolution then served in the Virginia House of Delegates starting in 1776 and served throughout the war.
A three-shot black powder musket volley was executed by the Virginia SAR Musket Squad, one of the first times a volley was authorized at Historic Bruton Parish Church. Sgt Maj John Champe immediate Past President Ken Bonner was lead musket in color guard for presentation of Colors and participated in the musket volley. Chapter President Barry Schwoerer presented the chapter wreath honoring the three Patriots.
