Loudoun County Partners with Leesburg Girl Scouts in ‘Project Elf’
The program, "Project Elf," was developed three years and has reached out to at least 60 families.

This holiday season, the Loudoun County Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (MHSAS) Prevention/ Intervention team is partnering with Leesburg Girl Scouts to provide gifts and other items to families throughout Loudoun County who are in need this season.
The program, “Project Elf,” was developed three years ago by Bethann Laign, who was then Service Unit Manager of Girl Scouts Unit 70-9 in Leesburg.

The scouts of Leesburg Service Unit 70-9 have worked during this holiday season adopting families currently receiving case management services through the MHSAS Prevention/ Intervention program.
“This will be the Girl Scouts’ third year of 'Project Elf', which was a huge success last year serving 60 families,” said Prevention & Intervention Program Manager Judith Romberg. “This year, the generosity and hard work of the Girl Scouts and their leaders will allow “Project Elf” to reach out to another 60 families.”

The Leesburg service unit has 50-plus Girl Scout troops with over 500 girls currently registered and each troop adopted one family to provide holiday gifts and clothing.
The scouts will wrap the gift and take them to the Mental Health Center this week. MHSAS Prevention/Intervention staff will then deliver all the gifts, clothing and food to each of the families in time for the holidays.
