Loudoun County SAR Chapter Participated in George Washington parade

Loudoun County based Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter Virginia SAR joined a multi-chapter team of Compatriots to march and ride in the George Washington Birthday parade in Old Town Alexandria. The theme for this year's parade was: "George Washington: Alexandria's Living Legend". Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) President Bill Greaf rode in a Convertible toward the front of the parade of SAR members. A float entered by the Loudoun County based Sgt Maj John Champe (SMJC) chapter was towed by owner and member Warner Workman. Float riders included SMJC President Barry Schwoerer and Vice President Mark Sink, Virginia SAR 1st Vice President Dr. Michael Weyler, Past Virginia Society SAR President Bill Schwetke, Fairfax Resolves Chapter member Jim Cordes, Col James Wood II Chapter member Richard Tyler and Jocelynn Wilson, Historian, Virginia Society Children of the American Revolution. SMJC Member Steven Van Deusen marched in the parade with a number of members dressed in Revolutionary War attire, both militia and Regimental uniforms. The float decoration was heavily influenced by various historical images of General and President George Washington.

The float decoration included a 1/3 size replica liberty bell that was rung throughout the parade. Bell ringing gained many smiles and much applause as the float transited the streets of Alexandria.
