Loudoun County Town Elections To Be Held In 3 Weeks
Town elections in Loudoun County will be held May 19 after state lawmakers rejected the governor's request to hold them in November.
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam pushed back state municipal elections, including elections in towns in Loudoun County, to May 19 from May 5. The Virginia legislature rejected the governor's proposal to hold the elections in November.
The governor had hoped to protect people from the coronavirus and give candidates more time to campaign by holding the elections in November. Under his executive power, the governor is allowed to delay elections by no more than two weeks without approval from the General Assembly.
The Towns of Hamilton, Lovettsville, Middleburg, Purcellville, and Round Hill will hold elections for the offices of mayor and town council. Here are the sample ballots for the May 19 elections in each town:

Here are the in-person voting locations for the May 19 elections:
- Town of Hamilton: Hamilton Baptist Church, 16 East Colonial Highway, Hamilton
- Town of Middleburg: Middleburg Town Office, 10 West Marshall Street, Middleburg
- Town of Round Hill: Round Hill Center, 20 High Street, Round Hill
- Town of Lovettsville: Lovettsville Game Protective Assn., 16 S. Berlin Turnpike, Lovettsville
- Town of Purcellville: Bush Tabernacle Skating Rink, 250 S. Nursery Avenue, Purcellville
Due to the coronavirus crisis, voters are encouraged to vote by mail. Visit vote.virginia.gov and fill out an online absentee ballot application. Due to the coronavirus crisis, all voters are authorized to use 2A Illness or Disability as the reason for requesting absentee by mail.

Absentee voting applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12.
Absenttee ballots must be received in the office no later than 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19. In-person absentee voting is being held at the Loudoun County Office of Elections at 750 Miller Drive, Suite C, Leesburg, VA 20175. All in-person absentee voters are not permitted to enter the office. They should drive their car to a sign and honk and a staff person will come out to assist them.
