Loudoun Democrats hosting Democratic Primary Candidate Forum

The Loudoun County Democratic Committee is hosting a Speed Dating “Candi-Date” Forum featuring Democratic Primary candidates for the U.S. House Virginia District 10, on March 16, 2024, at the Ashburn Library from 1 to 3 p.m. This event offers participants a unique opportunity to participate in discussions between voters and the Democratic primary candidates.

“As a committee, we were all heartbroken when Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton announced she was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and that she would be unable to run for re-election this year,” said LCDC Chair Liz Carter. “We are committed to helping voters in the 10th Congressional District select the best candidate to ensure we retain a Democrat in this seat and to build the broadest coalition to win back a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives.”

Twelve candidates are running in the Democratic primary for the U.S. House Virginia District 10 on June 18, 2024. The general election will occur on Nov. 5, 2024. The 10th District stretches across Loudoun, Prince William, Fauquier, Fairfax, and Rappahannock counties. Loudoun County is entirely within the 10th congressional district and has nearly 54% of the voters in the district.

“At our candidate forum, voters will get a chance to talk with each candidate in small groups, similar to speed dating,” added Liz Carter. “This format is more effective than a typical debate where candidates resort to sound bites and attempt to put their opponents in a negative light. Each candidate will have an opportunity to introduce themselves to the entire room. Then they will rotate from one group to another to answer questions to inform voters what they are running for and their vision.

“Having twelve primary candidates is a symbol of a healthy democracy. This gives multiple perspectives for voters, though for some, it may make for a difficult decision. Many of the Democratic primary candidates have held elected office and have represented people in this district before and after it underwent redistricting in late 2021. All of our candidates understand the stakes are high for our nation, and our committee is poised to support the primary winner and to keep this seat in Democratic control.

“Our democracy has been under attack for several years now. Every election is just as important as the last election, and it is up to all of us to step up and get off the sidelines. We need to build back the middle class, protect women’s reproductive freedoms, and address climate change. Electing a Democrat to Virginia 10 is the best way to get there,” Carter said.
