Loudoun Elementary School Staffer Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Loudoun County health officials are calling each person identified as having contact with the school staffer who has the coronavirus.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A staff member at Waxpool Elementary School in Ashburn tested positive for the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, according to Loudoun County Public Schools. The staff member is recovering at home, the school system said.

The Loudoun County Health Department confirmed Thursday that the Waxpool Elementary School staffer had tested positive. Waxpool Elementary is at 42560 Black Angus Drive.

The health department is conducting a contact mapping investigation and is in the process of calling each individual identified as having had contact with the staff member who tested positive for the coronavirus, the school system said. The department plans to provide additional information on this topic to the Loudoun County school community as the investigation progresses

"Although we recognize that it is difficult to receive this notification without the forthcoming update from the LCHD, we wanted you to have this information as soon as possible," Loudoun County Public Schools Superintendent Eric Williams said in an email to parents and staff members Thursday night.

Effective immediately, the Waxpool Elementary School building is closed to all students, employees, contractors, and the public until further notice. The school will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, Williams said.

Food distribution at Waxpool Elementary School is suspended indefinitely. Starting Monday and until further notice, the Loudoun County school system will make arrangements to deliver free meals to all Waxpool Elementary School students who are eligible for free- and reduced-price meals.

The Loudoun County Health Department is advising that anyone who is ill should self-quarantine and contact their physician or the health department at 703-737-8300 from 9 a.m. to 9 pm. The health department is not providing any additional information about the staff member who tested positive for the coronavirus or their contacts, Williams said.
