A man wanted in connection with a Dec. 30 murder in Ashburn was arrested in Dubai, police said. The suspect was taken back to Loudoun.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A murder suspect who fled the country in January is in custody in Loudoun County, the sheriff's office said.

INTERPOL and local police arrested the suspect, Furqan Syed, in Dubai earlier this week. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said Syed landed in the U.S. on Thursday. He is being held without bond at the county's adult detention center.

In January, authorities identified Syed as a suspect in the death of Najat Chemlali Goode in Ashburn on Dec. 30. The sheriff's office said Syed left the U.S. on Jan. 3.

Authorities said there was a connection that linked Syed and the victim. They did not specify how the two may have known each other.

The sheriff's office has chosen not to release many details regarding the case, including how Goode was killed.

Shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 30, deputies responded to a home in the 23200 block of Connie Marie Terrace after a family member found the woman. Authorities said the woman was taken to StoneSprings Hospital Center where she died. The victim was later identified as Goode.

In January, the sheriff's office released a sketch of a person of interest in the homicide. The composite sketch pictured a man who was in the area at the time of the homicide, police said.
