Loudoun Pushes Participation In Census On Eve Of Its 2020 Launch

The 2020 U.S. Census opens Thursday and continues until July 31.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Loudoun County government is rallying residents to participate in the 2020 Census on the eve of its launch. The county government's Complete Count Committee is working with more than 120 government, nonprofit, faith-based, business and community partners to ensure all residents are counted in the census.

The census will open Thursday and will continue until July 31. Residents can complete the Census online, by phone, or in paper form. Residents will receive a mailing before March 20 with instructions and a code to respond online. Residents can also access the census at www.2020census.gov. Households will receive a paper form in the mail in April if a response has not been recorded.

Residents who do not respond by mid-May should expect to receive a visit at their home by a U.S. Census Bureau employee.

“More than $30 million in federal funding for Loudoun County depends on how many people are counted in the census to support school meals, special education, Medicaid, affordable housing vouchers, foster care and more," Loudoun Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis J. Randall, who serves as the chair of the Loudoun County Complete Count Committee, said Wednesday in a statement.

Residents who live in group settings or lack permanent housing will be counted under a special group count process. Census responses are confidential and by law cannot be shared with any government agency outside of the U.S. Census Bureau.
