LTE: Mary Daniel a Welcome Surprise

I was in attendance at the AAUW Forum on October 16th at the Handley Library in Winchester.  What follows is my impression of the forum.  Admittedly, I have known Mary Daniel for over 11 years, and she is one one of the smartest, most eloquent, trustworthy people I know.  Mary was pleasant, attentive to other participants, spent the majority of her time talking about what she stands for, and didn’t talk about the MANY local organizations that endorse her.  She made minimal contrary statements about her counterpart.

Dave LaRock, on the other hand, didn’t waste any time saying that Mary was a mud-slinging liar, and then proceeded to spend what seemed to me to be a disproportional amount of time repeating that, commenting on ONE of the MANY organizations that supports Mary, and talking about how he could engage the other party.  However, he was apparently unable to stop talking about the other party long enough to keep me from losing track of what he believes in his zeal to jab at Mary. My EIGHT-YEAR-OLD whispered at one point, “Is he talking ‘smack’ about Mrs. Daniel?”  If an eight-year-old can see it, it’s a problem.

Afterwards, I told Mary I’d like to hear her rebuttal to his numerous allegations, and she gave them to me immediately.  Call me blind, but I didn’t even know Mary was a Democrat until I went to Berryville for her candidacy announcement.  I should have left my red tie at home, I guess.  Party affiliation doesn’t concern me.  What someone says and, most importantly, what someone does, is what I notice.  It’s clear to me that Mary Daniel’s example is what we want for our Delegate in Richmond.
