Names Proposed for New Loudoun Metro Stops: Media Report

The county's Board of Supervisors is expected to consider Silver Line stations Wednesday.

The Metro system is coming to Loudoun County, but there’s one detail that has to be settled: What will the local stations be called?

One choice is obvious - the Silver Line stop at Washington Dulles International Airport will, naturally, be called “Dulles Airport.” But the second phase of the line will continue north and then west along the Dulles Greenway, with a stop at Old Ox Road (Route 606) and terminating with a stop at Ashburn Village Parkway (Route 772).

On Wednesday, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will consider two proposed names:the terminus at Route 772 would be called “Ashburn,” while the Route 606 stop would be dubbed “Loudoun Gateway,” according to the Washington Business Journal.

The names were vetted and proposed by county staff members following public surveys.

The final decision will be made by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the agency that oversees the Metro system. The second phase of the Silver Line is expected to be completed by 2018 or 2019. The first phase opened last summer; it runs from the East Falls Church stop to the Wiehle Avenue station in Reston.
