New Equestrian Trail Opens at Temple Hall Farm

The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority celebrated the Dedication of the Dee Dee Symington Equestrian Trail at Temple Hall Farm on Saturday, May 12. 

Symington was the daughter of Valeria and James Symington, the previous owners of the 286-acre Leesburg farm. Valeria Symington donated the property to NVRPA after her husband’s death in 1987. Dee Dee was an avid horsewoman and enjoyed riding the property. She died in 1967.

“The trail was something we’d considered for years and it seemed like a perfect fit for the farm,” said NVRPA Executive Director Paul Gilbert. “We’re very excited to be able to offer the public yet another way to interact with this great park.”

The four mile equestrian trail spans the entire perimeter of the farm and was built this past winter by the Temple Hall Farm staff. It will accommodate riding horses as well as carriage horses, and is available for use during regular farm hours, free of charge. The trail also contains nine horse jumps, which were built by a local Eagle Scout.
