PHOTOS: Leesburg Volunteer Fire Department Open House

There wasn't a cloud in the sky for the annual Open House on Saturday afternoon, which was held in celebration of Emergency Fire Prevention Week to raise public awareness about fire prevention.

This year’s theme was “Protect Your Family from Fire!”. During the four hour event, a variety of trucks were open and on display for the public to tour, and junior firefighters could be seen on all of them, pretending to race to fires.

In addition to the trucks, there were a variety of fire safety demonstrations, including a Life Safety Trailer, which teaches kids how to evacuate their house when the smoke detector sounds and a vehicle rescue using the jaws of life. There was even a tour of a Medical Transport Helicopter, which landed on the field across from the station.

While the event was free, there were plenty of opportunities to donate money to the local station. Fire Chief Wayne Whetsell said that money was either donated directly or through raffles and will "go to buying equipment and gear for the station."
