Pinch-a-Dollar Opens in Leesburg

Locally owned and operated store offers brand names at a discount.

While he was growing up, Marvin Allen often heard his mom say “I’ve got to pinch a dollar."

This saying not only stuck with Allen over the years -- it turned into a dollar store business idea that on Saturday became a reality.

Allen watched as his new venture Pinch-a-Dollar celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony Aug. 25 with Mayor Kristen Umstattd and Leesburg’s Economic Development Manager Marantha Edwards.

The store is located at 521-B East Market Street in the Bellewood Commons Shopping Center near Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks.

"Welcome to Leesburg, we appreciate your faith in the town and I’m sure we will all be here frequently,”  Umstattd said.

Allen, his wife Estelle and son Marvin Allen, Jr. live nearby, which was a deciding factor in choosing this location.  They also liked the fact that Starbucks, Papa Johns, Dunkin Donuts all draw a good crowd.

“Dollar stores are doing very well right now because many people are trying to stretch a dollar,” Edwards said.

The store is filled with national brands of household goods, toys, food items, cosmetics and more. Inventory will be rotating seasonally and depending on what sells best. Most items are a dollar, but there are some that cost more.

Pinch-a-dollar is not a national chain: it is a locally owned business and with that you will receive small-town personal customer service and a warm welcome, Allen said.

“We offer thousands of quality products at discounted prices in a clean, friendly and pleasant atmosphere,” Allen said.
