Plane Makes Emergency Landing Near Airport in Leesburg

A small plane had to make an emergency landing near the Leesburg Executive Airport on Thursday morning, according to Leesburg Police Department.

The pilot was the only person on the plane. He was not injured and damage appeared to be limited to the landing gear, according to police.

The twin-engine aircraft had left Dulles Airport on Thursday morning en route to Pennsylvania. Around 11:15 a.m., the pilot experienced a power issue and attempted to land at the Leesburg airport.

The aircraft landed just short of the runway in an open field on the airport property, according to police.

The airport was closed for a time Thursday as the police department investigated the incident.
