Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter selected BEST Medium Sized Chapter in Virginia SAR

The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter, Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution was selected as the 2025-2026 Best Medium Sized Chapter in the State of Virginia. A streamer for this achievement was presented to Chapter President Barry Schwoerer at the 2026 VASSAR Annual Meeting at Glen Allen, VA on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

This selection is the culmination of many hours of work by dedicated members of the chapter working to implement National SAR Goals summarized by this statement: "The Sons of the American Revolution promotes patriotism, serves the community, and inspires and educates the public about the history of the American Revolution".

We are graded by an annual report that assembles our activities into several categories: Media publicity-how well we get information out to the public via newspapers, Facebook and other social media; Speaking about the people, places and events of the Revolution; supporting the Daughters and Children of the American Revolution; sponsoring contests for youngsters: Posters, brochures, essay, oration, Video, NJROTC, Eagle scouts; Recognizing heroes, Life savers, outstanding Fire Safety and law enforcement professionals and EMT professionals; finding and placing Patriot grave Markers on the graves of Patriots buried in Loudoun County; having a team of men dressed in the uniforms of our revolutionary War ancestors to parade and perform for the public; Support our Veteran community-we serve on the volunteer committee at Martinsburg VA Medical Center; Sponsor awards for outstanding history teachers; Commemorate Virginia Presidents and founding fathers; grow our Chapter membership-in 2025 we led Medium size Virginia SAR chapters by adding 20 members; and much more.
