Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter VA SAR presents Flag Certificate

On 8 November the Kenneth W. Culbert Elementary School in Hamilton was presented a SAR Certificate for proper display and management of the Flag of the United States. To earn the certificate an organization must display the flag during the day or have the flag lighted at night. Torn, worn, or soiled flags must be replaced. The United States Flag should never touch the ground and must be folded properly after it is removed from display.

Mr. Palma De Los Santos, Custodian for the School, is responsible for raising the flag each morning and supervising students as they take the flag down each afternoon. He then supervises them as they carefully fold the flag. Mr. De Los Santos and the three children assembled at the flagpole as Barry Schwoerer of the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter VA SAR presented the flag certificate and read a short story titled "I am Old Glory". The school recorded the presentation for posting on the school news site for all students to view.
