Sgt Maj John Champe SAR float in Leesburg Holiday Parade

Seven Sons of the American Revolution compatriots rode or marched in the Leesburg Holiday Parade on Saturday evening, 9 December. The float maintained a Revolutionary War and Founding Fathers motif while showcasing a Christmas Theme with an array of lights and brightly lit characters. The team passed out candy and Patriotic Rubber Duckies to a waiting crowd lining King Street from Ida Lee Park to Fairfax Street.

Participants for the Loudoun County based Sgt Major John Champe Champe chapter were: Warner Workman-Float owner, Mark Sink, and Barry Schwoerer. From the Colonel James Wood II Chapter near Winchester: Chip Daniel, Allan Phillips, and Paul Christensen. From the Culpeper Minutemen Chapter in Culpeper: Bill Schwetke. All SAR Participants wore Revolutionary War clothing, either militia or Regimental uniform. Militia men from Loudoun County typically wore a hunting shirt or hunting frock, a simple pull-over garment popular with General George Washington because of durability and simple construction.
