Sgt Maj John Champe SAR participated in the Road to Revolution Historical Encampment at Franklin Park

Saturday, May 23. at Franklin Regional Park, Purcellville, VA

A cold and rainy day didn't dampen the Patriotic Spirits of about one-hundred and thirty-eight citizens who viewed the accoutrements of Patriots, played Patriotic games, and witnessed two flintlock, black powder musket volleys. Children played the Colonial game of Quoits, essentially a ring-toss game. They made feather darts from corks and duck feathers, created Revolutionary War cartridges using inert materials, and signed a Declaration of Independence with a quill pen. Face cutouts of Rev War soldiers, a drummer boy, and a young lady and woman in Colonial dress gave opportunity to have pictures taken as a Patriot or Colonial.

Nine members of the Sgt Maj John Champe participated, six in the uniforms of Patriot ancestors. Three 1st Continental Dragoons with horses demonstrated how they would attack using a saber. Sgt Maj John Champe was in a Dragoon unit with Major Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee.

The Chapter serves Loudoun County and parts of surrounding counties with eighty-four members. The chapter was selected as the best medium sized chapter in Virginia for 2025. For more information about the chapter please visit our website at: johnchampe-sar.org/
