Sons of the American Revolution honor Veterans on Chicago Honor Flight

Three chapters of the Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution combined to form an Honor Guard to greet a Chicago Honor Flight of 114 veterans. Barry Schwoerer and Steve Van Deusen represented the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter, Paul Christensen represented the Col James Wood II chapter, and Jim Cordes represented the Fairfax Resolves Chapter.

There was one veteran of World War II, twelve veterans of the Korean War, and one-hundred and one Veterans of the Vietnam War. The oldest veteran was ninety-eight, the youngest sixty-nine. There was one female Vietnam War Veteran. Sixteen Veterans served in the United States Air Force, Sixty-four in the United States Army, eleven in the United States Marine Corps, twenty-two in the United States Navy, and one in the United States Coast Guard.

Honor flights bring veterans from all over the United States for a one-day tour of military service and War memorials in the National Capital Region. Each veteran is assigned an escort and each bus has at least one medical professional. Honor Flights are a way to say THANK YOU to our veterans who have done so much for our country.
