Special Exception Approved for Destiny Creative Arts Center

The Town Council voted unanimously to allow the center to continue operating after being informed that they were operating a special exception use without the appropriate approvals.

On Tuesday, the Town Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution that will allow for a childcare center to continue operations in the Bellwood Commons Shopping Center, located at 545-D Market St.

According to documents, the applicant, , was provided with a courtesy letter last June explaining that they were operating a special exception use without the appropriate approvals.

The applicant came forward Tuesday night with hopes that they would be able to correct the zoning violation with the requested approval of their childcare center special exception application.

The center, operated by Destiny Creative Arts Center, a ministry of Destiny Church, currently leases 3,500 square feet and was seeking to have two three-hour programs for a maximum of 75 children in each one. A waiver for outdoor recreation was not granted, however as there is no appropriate area that is suitable.

The location of the childcare center is temporary. It will eventually move to 1221 S. King St.
